Osun Poly Lecturers, students protest Rector’s sack

Osun Poly protesters

The Osun State chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Iree and the students of the institution on Tuesday, protested the sack of its Rector, Dr Tajudeen Odetayo, by Governor Ademola Adeleke, while kicking against his replacement by a kinsman of the Governor.

It could be recalled that the Osun State Government, in a letter dated July 11, 2023 and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, M. K. Jimoh, suspended the Rector over alleged corruption, misappropriation of fund and abuse of office.

The letter reads: “You are hereby appointed as the acting Rector of the Osun State Polytechnic Iree. The appointment takes immediate effect. We wish you a successful tenure of office.”

Meanwhile, the students and ASUP leadership stormed the gate of the Institution with placards and banner to protest the developments.

It was learned that the protesters shut the gate while insisting that they won’t allow any activity on the school premises.

They also accused the Governor of nepotism, frowning at the replacement of the asked Rector by Adeleke’s kinsman from Ede.
