Osun LG election: Four APC members drag party to court over imposition of candidates

Four members of the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have dragged the party to court.

The four aggrieved members have told an High Court in Osogbo, the capital of the state, to stop the ruling party from presenting Lawal Adeyinka Lukman and Isola Kamoli Adeniyi as candidates of the party in the forthcoming Osun 2022 LG polls, for Iwo East Local Council Development Area and Iwo Local Government, respectively.

The four members of the APC are: Babajide Isiaka Iyanda, Ojeniran Azeez Oluremi, Akande Wasiu Adeleke and Alimi Isiaka Akanni.

The party members also told the court to compel the Osun Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) not to recognize Adeniyi and Lawal as the candidate of the party from Iwo LG and Iwo East LCDA, respectively.

In separate law suits which were dated September 29, 2022, the aspirants made an allegation that the APC in Iwo only chose without necessary consultation, consensus, or due process, Adeniyi out of many aspirants who purchased the Expression of Interest Forms.

They said that they felt cheated as card-carrying members of the APC who purchased local government elections’ Expression of Interest Forms for Iwo and also passed through the process of screening alongside others.

“The inclusion of the OSSIEC in the petition is due to the fact the body is responsible for the conduct of the election, as well as set out guidelines for the conduct of Chairmanship/Councillorship Election for 15th October, 2022.

“We seek an Order of Interlocutory injunction restraining the APC from fielding Mr. Ishola Kamoli Adeniyi as the Chairmanship Aspirant/Contestant for Iwo Local Government Area on the its platform for Chairmanship/Councillorship election slated for 15th October, 2022 pending the final determination of this suit.

“We also ask, in the Order of Interlocutory injunction, that OSSIEC be restrained from conducting and or hold the election into Chairmanship/Councillorship positions of Iwo Local Government Area slated for 15th October, 2022 pending the final determination of this Suit,” the sheet by Oluremi and Iyanda read partly.”

The other law suit by Adeleke and Akanni reads in part, “We seek an Order of Interlocutory injunction restraining the APC from fielding Lawal Adeniyi Lukman as the Chairmanship Aspirant/Contestant for Iwo East LCDA on the its platform for Chairmanship/Councillorship election slated for 15th October, 2022 pending the final determination of this suit.

“We also ask, in the Order of Interlocutory injunction, that OSIEC be restrained from conducting and or hold the election into Chairmanship/Councillorship positions of Iwo East LCDA slated for 15th October, 2022 pending the final determination of this Suit”.
