OPC member nabbed for allegedly killing Lagos teenager
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect linked to the tragic shooting death of a 17-year-old boy in the Itapo area of Epe Local Government.
Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin disclosed the arrest on Thursday, revealing that the suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, is now in custody and has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, around 3 a.m., when the OPC member allegedly opened fire on the teenager, killing him instantly before fleeing the scene. The shocking event has led to an outcry from the Epe community.
In the wake of the shooting, angry residents and youths took to the streets, marching with the victim’s body through various parts of the town to demand justice. The protest led to heightened tensions, prompting security forces to intervene. Officers reportedly used teargas and fired warning shots to disperse the gathering and restore order in the area.
The victim’s remains were later taken to a hospital for necessary procedures. After initiating a manhunt earlier in the week, police officials have now confirmed that the suspect is in custody and that the investigation is ongoing.
