One Kwara Agenda urges politicians to put people first amid growing insecurity
A socio-political advocacy group, One Kwara Agenda (OKA), has cautioned politicians in Kwara State against early politicking, insisting that the worsening security crisis demands urgent attention rather than political manoeuvring.
In a statement issued in Ilorin on Sunday, the group’s Convener, Comrade Femi Adetola, lamented that communities across the state are under siege and lives are being lost daily, stressing that leaders must prioritise security over personal ambitions.
“This is no time to play politics. This is the time for all hands to be on deck in finding lasting solutions to insecurity. Government alone cannot resolve the crisis. Every stakeholder must join hands to protect our people and communities,” Adetola said.
The group described the renewed wave of political campaigns and endorsements as “insensitive and unnecessary,” warning that such moves risk distracting leaders from governance.
It noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not released the timetable for the 2027 general elections.
OKA also cautioned against sectional politics, saying such tendencies only deepen divisions at a time when unity is most crucial. It emphasised that the search for leadership in Kwara must be guided by competence, capacity, and integrity, not narrow interests.
“What Kwara needs now are leaders who will rise above sectional sentiments and unite the people against insecurity. Lives are being lost, communities are under siege, and the people deserve solutions, not premature politicking,” the group added.
The advocacy group sympathised with families affected by recent attacks and urged security agencies to intensify operations.
It also called on political leaders to demonstrate statesmanship by putting the safety and welfare of citizens above electoral ambitions.
