Ondo suspends civil servant over Facebook post on governor
A worker in the Ondo State Civil Service, who’s yet to be identified has been suspended for allegedly sending across reports that the state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, died.
The state Head of Service, Mr John Adeyemo, revealed the suspension of the said civil servant while speaking in Akure, Ondo State.
The death rumour went viral a few days ago while the governor was said to have been out of the country.
But, however, the wife of the governor, Betty, debunked the news as untrue on her Facebook page.
The Head of Service, who did not expose the identity of the worker, remarked that the said worker posted the fake news on his Facebook account.
“Incidentally, I called Mr Governor a day before the rumour and we spoke and chatted. So, when I heard the fake news, I was disturbed and I was like who is this fellow carrying this terrible rumour because I knew Mr Governor was alive and with vigour. So, I never believed it,” he added.
The head of service added that, the worker’s name had been sent to the state civil service commission for due sanction.
He explained that the punishment was meted out to the officer to serve as a warning to others.
Adeyemo expressed excitement that the governor was back to the country in good health, saying God had humiliated the rumour mongers and their masters.
