Olubadan:2,000 security operatives to be deployed for Ladoja’s coronation

The Oyo State government has announced plans to deploy 2,000 security operatives to ensure a hitch-free coronation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Chief Bayo Oyero, Chairman of the Coronation Planning Committee and former President General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), disclosed this during an interactive session with journalists at the Olubadan Palace, Oke-Aremo, Ibadan on Saturday.

Oyero said the deployment of police, Civil Defence, and Amotekun personnel was necessary given the caliber of dignitaries expected at the event, including President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, lawmakers, traditional rulers, and other high-profile guests.

He stressed that the coronation transcends Ibadan, symbolizing Yoruba heritage, Nigerian culture, and African pride.

Oyero praised Governor Seyi Makinde for his support, noting that it was the first time a non-government official was chairing the coronation planning committee.

The weeklong programme begins on Tuesday, September 23, with a cultural fiesta at Olubadan Stadium, Iyaganku. A coronation lecture by Professor Toyin Falola will follow on Wednesday, September 24, at the University of Ibadan’s International Conference Centre.

A mega praise and worship concert is scheduled for Thursday, September 25, at Civic Centre, Idi-Ape, coinciding with Oba Ladoja’s 81st birthday celebration.

The grand coronation will take place on Friday, September 26, at Mapo Hall grounds. A thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday, September 28, at the Catholic Cathedral, Oke Padre, while a special Jumat service on Friday, October 3, at Ojaba Central Mosque will conclude the events.

Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Otunba Ademola Ojo, confirmed that the ceremonies would be broadcast live on state and national television, radio, and social media for Nigerians in the diaspora.

He added that Ibadan’s music industry would be showcased, with Fuji stars Saheed Osupa, Taye Currency, and other indigenous musicians set to entertain guests.

Ladoja becomes the first-ever former Governor to emerged as the King of the cosmopolitan Ibadan city. The former Senator came in to the throne with a strong and solid background in public administration,business and politics.

Ladoja became an Oba after he received a ceremonial beaded crown from reigning Olubadan and the Government of Oyo State on 12 August 2024.

Following the death of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan, Ladoja was announced as the incoming Olubadan on 7 July 2025. On Aug 21, 2025, Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, officially approved Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan-designate.
