NSCDC loses female officer in tragic Abuja simulation drill accident

A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has died after she was knocked down and run over by an operational patrol vehicle during a simulation exercise in Abuja.

The tragic incident occurred during a coordinated show-of-force drill, according to NSCDC spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, who confirmed the development on Saturday.

Video footage circulating on social media shows the moment the officer was struck as the patrol vehicle made a turn during the exercise. The vehicle eventually came to a stop after the impact, while fellow officers and bystanders quickly rushed to lift it in an effort to rescue her. Emergency responders arrived shortly afterward and evacuated her to a medical facility, but she was pronounced dead despite efforts to save her.

“It is true we lost a personnel during the simulation exercise. Our senior officers are on their way to the residence of the deceased to pay our condolences,” Babawale said.

He added that the corps has activated its internal procedures to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident and assured that a detailed official statement would be issued to provide further clarification and outline subsequent actions.

As of the time of filing this report, the identity of the deceased officer had not been made public by the NSCDC.
