Nobody can stop you from entering Osun — Gov Adeleke assures Aregbesola

The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke on Tuesday, March 28 assured the former Governor of the state and the current Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola of his support and the need to sustain his lofty policies and schemes.

The Governor said the minister can enter the state any moment he feels like, as the state is his and that he (Adeleke) would complete the projects initiated by Aregbesola for the development of the state.

The Governor made this revelation in Ilesa, while inaugurating the Ilesa Passport Front Office and Production Centre.

He said governance should be placed above individual’s political interest and party lines and should be for the interest of the people.

The Governor solicited the support of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and other security agencies to assist his government fight illegal mining in the state.

Adeleke said: “Mr. Minister, I am assuring you that this is your state, nobody can chase you away. This is your state, you are welcome anytime. Even, you can come around to the government house. When I complete all of the structures I am currently working on at the government house, I will personally invite you to commission them.

“No matter the party you are, if you are a progressive in as much as you are doing what the people want. When he was Governor, he loved the people and the people loved him. All the projects Ogbeni left were abandoned for years. I promised the people during my campaign that I am going to continue the projects. That is what I am doing.”

While making his remark, the minister, Aregbesola commended the governor for attending the event, affirming that his disposition to dignify him with his presence despite party differences, is worthy of note.

“I am very grateful for your presence Governor Ademola Adeleke. Without making a personal call to him, he chose to honour us with his physical presence and that of everybody the Governor’s office. It is indeed remarkable as my predecessor only attended my official engagement in the state once, throughout his tenure. This is my first official assignment in the state after your assumption of office, which you have come to grace.”

The Informant247 observes that Aregbesola and the immediate past Governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola (who’s Adeleke’s political opponent) are not in good terms.

Aregbesola who handed over to Oyetola, was not comfortable with the manner he (Oyetola) treated him with neglect during his four year reign.

Even though they are both members of the same All Progressives Congress APC, Aregbesola did not support the re-election bid of Oyetola.

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC declared Adeleke the winner of the July 16, 2022 governorship election in the state.

The tribunal on January 27, 2023 declared Oyetola the winner of the election.

2 out of the 3 member panel of the tribunal maintained that the Oyetola proved beyond a reasonable doubt that there was overvoting in some of the polling units.

Adeleke on February 9, 2023 appealed the judgment of the Osun State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja, on Friday, March 24, 2023 confirmed the victory of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

The Court quashed the position of the Election Petition Tribunal, which had earlier ruled in favour of the immediate past Governor of the state, Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The three-man panel revealed that the appellant did not forge any documents and that the report of the server of the electoral commission which earlier upheld the victory of Oyetola was not applicable.

The appellate court upheld that the BVAS is the key and primary source of election accreditation.

The court of appeal therefore disregard the judgement of the election petition tribunal, and affirm the victory of the sitting Governor of the state, Ademola Adeleke.
