No part of Kwara is under Bandits’ control —state government

The Kwara State Government has dismissed as false and misleading an online report claiming that nine of the state’s 16 local government areas have been taken over by bandits.

In a statement on Monday, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Communication, Ibraheem Abdullateef, said the report lacked credibility and did not reflect the true security situation in the state.

“The claim that nine local government areas in Kwara State are under the control of bandits is completely FALSE,” Abdullateef stated. “No single LGA has been taken. The Kwara Police Command has refuted this, and no security agency has reported such an incident.”

He described the viral report as “concocted misinformation” designed to create unnecessary fear and tension among residents.

“While there have been isolated cases of security breaches in a few communities in the North and South, Kwara remains one of the safest and most peaceful states in North Central Nigeria,” he added.

Abdullateef noted that the state government, in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser, is making steady progress in restoring peace to affected areas.

He, however, cautioned those behind the false narrative—particularly members of the opposition and bloggers—to desist from spreading misinformation capable of destabilising the state.

“We urge individuals like the PDP’s Public Relations Officer, Olusegun Adewara (Sholyment), and other peddlers of fake news to stop misleading the public,” the statement concluded.
