No more room for corruption, Kwara govt warns Tertiary Institution heads
The Kwara State Government has warned Heads of Tertiary Institutions in the state to shun corruption and abuse of office in the discharge of their duties.
The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Hajia Saadatu Modibbo, gave the warning during the monthly briefing with the Institution heads, held on Tuesday in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.
She told the heads that the era of zero tolerance has come, hence the need for them to shun all corrupt acts, warning that anyone caught will face the full wrath of the law.
Her words: “You all must know that the Kwara State of today is no longer business as usual. Henceforth, Council meetings are to be held only quarterly in all our Tertiary Institutions, except of course, on very special cases and emergencies. For instance, where there are vacant posts of the Head of Institution.
“In lieu of the zero tolerance for corruption and indiscipline of this administration, you must never be found wanting, and always consult widely before sensitive decisions are taken to avoid costly mistakes.
“As progressives, we must not allow divisive tendencies to come between us, as all hands must be on desk always. You must not see yourself as an end, but means to achieving an end; there is no gainsaying the fact that little or nothing can you achieve without cooperation.”
“The Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq administration has unearthed with utter dismay and serious disappointment serious corrupt practices in some of our Tertiary Institutions, according to revelations coming out from reports of the visitation panels set up to investigate the rots in some institutions over a period of time.
“The reports detected numerous atrocities ranging from abuse of office, impunity and misappropriation of scarce resources by people who are saddled with the responsibility of overseeing the day-to-day activities of these institutions.”
Meanwhile, she emphasized on the need for the various Heads of Institutions to consider equity and fairness in the appointment of Principal Officers, going forward, noting that the distribution of key appointments must unilaterally touch down on all the three Senatorial Districts as a matter of necessity.
