No casualties recorded in Abuja Samsung Headquarters’ fire incident

A fire incident at the prominent Samsung Headquarters near Banex Junction in Wuse 2, Abuja, was swiftly addressed, and fortunately, no casualties were recorded, according to Mr. Ibrahim Tauheed, the FCT Fire Spokesman.

Tauheed provided details of the incident in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja, stating that a distress call was received from Mrs. Ngozi, the owner of Mozini Spa, situated behind Furniture House, when the fire broke out at 7:38 p.m.

The fire, of a commercial nature, engulfed a two-storey building housing Samsung products. Preliminary findings indicated that the fire was a result of careless welding activities near a pile of empty, combustible cartons.

The Asokoro Fire Station arrived at the scene at 7:43 p.m., but they faced hostility from a group of individuals who began pelting their fire truck with stones.

To ensure the safety of the firefighters and their equipment, the crew leader, DSF Ahmed Katsina, directed the driver to take an alternate route to Ahmadu Bello Way and alerted the police control room. Upon the arrival of Nigeria Police personnel, they used tear gas to disperse the unruly crowd, allowing the firefighters to commence their firefighting efforts.

Unfortunately, the delay resulted in the fire intensifying and spreading throughout the building. Nevertheless, combined efforts from multiple stations and agencies managed to prevent it from spreading to nearby structures and the adjacent filling station.

Despite the fire raging for over six hours from 7:38 p.m. on Nov. 6 to 01:37 a.m. on Nov. 7, the fire was ultimately brought under control.

The Federal Fire Service and FCT Fire Service maintained one station each on standby until the following morning. Engr. Zacchaeus Adebayo, the acting director of FCT Fire Service, closely oversaw the operations and commended the firefighters for their dedication, promising to enhance operational conditions promptly.
