NNPP crisis: Faction reverses Kwankwaso’s suspension, expels Agbo, others
The crisis of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has taken a new twist following the reversal of a suspension of Rabiu Kwankwaso, the party’s presidential candidate, in the last general election, by a faction of the party loyal to him.
The Informant247 had earlier reported that the NNPP board of trustees (BoT) led by Boniface Aniebonam on Tuesday suspended Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano state, over alleged anti-party activities.
Kwankwaso has been photographed alongside President Bola Tinubu on a few occasions in recent times.
It was also gathered that the party’s national publicity secretary, Agbo Major, was also expelled by the faction loyal to Kwankwaso.
Major had been appointed acting chair by the BoT.
A statement by the faction said Aniebonam, founder of the party, had been on suspension since August.
According to a statement signed by Ladipo Johnson, a chieftain of the party, “At the National Executive Committee meeting of the NNPP held in Abuja today, August 29th 2023, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, Agbo Major and several others were expelled from the party,”
“The NEC also moved several other motions relating to the Logo of the party, the Amendment of the constitution, ratification of the State caretaker committees, and the suspension of two Articles in the form of the NNPP 2022.
“At the meeting were the Executive Governor of Kano State, the National Chairman, Distinguished Senator Kawu Ismaila, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Engr Buba Galadima and many others.
“NEC noted that there were suspended (now expelled) persons who purportedly held a Board of Trustees meeting in Apapa, Lagos this morning.
“Naturally, their meeting was null and void and to no effect.”
