NLC discontinues planned nationwide strike over naira scarcity
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has decided not to proceed with its planned nationwide strike over the scarcity of naira notes.
The suspension of the nationwide strike was the resolution of the NLC’s national executive council meeting on Tuesday March 28.
As earlier reported by The Informant247, the NLC has ordered all workers in the public sector to go on strike beginning from Wednesday next week.
This was revealed by the president of the Congress, Joe Ajaero, in a media briefing at Labour House in Abuja on Wednesday March 22, 2023.
He also ordered that affiliate unions which constitute the NLC to be on standby for picketing exercise across all Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN’s branches in the country.
He said the directive came following the end of 1 week ultimatum given to the CBN to make money (cash) available for the people.
The Federal Government has said it has arrested the threat to protest the scarcity of naira notes by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
This was revealed by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, on Tuesday March 28 while speaking at the weekly Ministerial Briefing at the State House, Abuja.
