Nine Kwara United players test positive for coronavirus

Nine players of the Kwara United football club have tested positive for coronavirus in the state.

According to a report by THE PUNCH newspaper, the players, staff and management of the club were tested for COVID-19 as mandated by the League Management Company ahead of the 2020 /21 season, in line with the guidelines from the National Centre for Disease Control.

However, speaking on this development, the report quoted the Kwara United media officer, Jimoh Bashir, as saying, “That was what the NCDC said and as a club we don ’ t have anything to say about it since they were the ones that conducted the tests and also confirmed it.

“It is left to them (NCDC) to say that they (players) are positive or not , but everything about COVID-19 in Kwara is being handled by a committee. As a club, we are under the Kwara State Government and we cannot say anything about it, that is why we didn’t react.

“It is up to the state government to clarify from the NCDC.”

Also the club chairman Kumbi Titiloye, in the report, added, “The report is very inaccurate. There is a COVID-19 team in Kwara State and we will wait for the government to give their report.

“I am not allowed to speak on COVID-19 issues, if it was football matter, I will discuss it with you. I am not the one that carried out the tests, it’s the COVID-19 team and they are the ones that can tell you what is going on and not any member of Kwara United.”
