Nigerians thrown in darkness as national grid suffers fresh collapse

For the second time in 2025, the national power grid has suffered another collapse, leaving homes and businesses across major cities in darkness.

According to SaharaReporters, the collapse occurred at 11:34 am on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, according to Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company.

The company wrote: “Dear Esteemed Customer, Please be informed that we experienced a system outage today, 12th February 2025, at 11:34hrs, affecting all our feeders.

“Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders,” the company added.

This was also confirmed by National Grid’s X page, which wrote:  “There was a “GRID DISTURBANCE” before noon today. Parts of the country experienced outages.
Further information shortly.”

This development marks the 14th grid failure in the past 14 months, sparking widespread frustration among Nigerians. The grid collapse has resulted in a significant drop in power generation, with reports indicating that generation plummeted from 2,111.01 megawatts to 390.20 megawatts.
