Nigerian couple nabbed for selling their baby for N500,000
ABAKALIKI, Nigeria (The Informant247) – A 20-year-old mother and her lover have been arrested in Nigeria’s southern Ebonyi state over the sale of their baby boy to an operator of a maternity home for N500,000, police said on Tuesday.
The mother identified as Ola China was impregnated by a bricklayer, Jonah Ogbuagu, in August 2021.
Ola eventually puts to bed in April 2022 in neighbouring Rivers state after she went to hibernate at her aunt’s house during the pregnancy period.
After putting to bed, she conspired with her husband and sold the baby.
State police spokesperson Chris Anyanwu revealed that the owner of the maternity home, who’s generally known as “Mummy Abigail’’ was apprehended in Afikpo North Local Government Area.
“Mummy Abigail runs a maternity home which she uses as a cover for her illicit trade.
“The suspects have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons for necessary actions and prosecution,’’ Anyanwu said.
He also revealed that the command apprehended a two-man syndicate of child traffickers, who are into stealing, kidnapping and sale of children.
Anyawu revealed their details as Otuu Chizaram, 24, from Ndukwe Akpoha and Agbi Precious, 20, of Evuma Road both in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi.
“Each of them confessed to the crime of stealing a baby,’’ Anyanwu added.
