Nigerian army dismisses reports of mass resignations

The Nigerian Army has refuted recent media claims alleging widespread resignations among its personnel due to corruption, low morale, and inadequate care, labeling such reports as false and misleading.

In a statement shared on its X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Army emphasized that, like other military institutions worldwide, service within its ranks is entirely voluntary. Personnel are free to resign, provided they adhere to the procedures outlined in the Harmonized Terms and Conditions of Service for officers and soldiers.

The Army clarified that it manages routine discharges in an organized manner, ensuring a smooth transition for departing personnel. It also ensures that all benefits, including pensions, gratuities, and other entitlements, are provided to those leaving the service.

The statement further explained that publishing the names of personnel who are voluntarily or involuntarily disengaging is standard practice. The Army denied claims that soldiers are leaving en masse due to insufficient benefits, describing the allegations as an attempt to undermine the integrity of the Nigerian Army.
