Nigeria ranks as Africa’s third strongest military power
Nigeria has made significant strides in military capability, securing the third position among African nations in the 2025 Global Firepower Military Strength Index, as reported by PUNCH Online on Monday.
The Global Firepower Index assesses the military strength of 145 countries based on over 60 metrics, including troop numbers, equipment capabilities, financial resources, logistical efficiency, and geographical advantages.
In the latest rankings, Egypt retains its place at the top as Africa’s strongest military power, followed by Algeria in second and South Africa in fourth.
Nigeria’s advancement to third place highlights the country’s growing military strength, driven by strategic investments in personnel, equipment modernization, and counter-terrorism operations.
