Nigeria Police arrest major arms dealer, 1,246 suspects, recover over 3,000 ammunition nationwide
The Nigeria Police Force, led by Inspector-General Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has announced substantial progress in the fight against crime across the nation, with significant arrests, rescues, and recoveries throughout October. Demonstrating the force’s commitment to public safety, these operations have led to the arrest of a major arms dealer and hundreds of suspects involved in various crimes.
Key achievements and arrests
From October 1, 2024, the police reported the arrest of 1,246 suspects linked to serious criminal activities. These arrests included:
- 371 armed robbery suspects
- 186 kidnapping suspects
- 242 murder/homicide suspects
- 63 suspects linked to unlawful firearm possession
- 217 rape suspects
- 167 suspected cultists
The police also recovered 210 firearms and over 3,172 rounds of ammunition of varying calibres, alongside 118 stolen vehicles. Additionally, 64 kidnapping victims were safely rescued across different states.
Major arms dealer arrested in Plateau state
In a major breakthrough, police operatives arrested a high-profile arms dealer, Jubril Musa, in Plateau State. Seized from the suspect were several weapons, including two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, a Makarov pistol, a fabricated Bronny pistol, and various rounds of ammunition. Musa allegedly confessed to supplying weapons to bandits and kidnappers in the area, intensifying the threat to local communities.

IGP Egbetokun reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining safety and security through a blend of tactical operations, intelligence-driven policing, and community engagement. Emphasizing a reduction in crime rates nationwide, the force aims to continue dismantling networks involved in banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and cybercrime.
