Nigeria mobilizes 205 troops to The Gambia on peacekeeping mission
The Nigerian Army has mobilised about 205 soldiers to The Gambia on a mission of peacekeeping.
This is an assurance of Nigeria’s dedication to mobilize up to standard peacekeepers with the aim of ensuring global peace and security.
The chief of operations, army headquarters, Major-General Olufemi Akinjobi, has said that Nigeria had successfully partaken in 40 missions of peacekeeping and mobilized over 100,000 peacekeepers since 1960.
While being represented by Major-General Zakari Abubakar, Akinjobi affirmed that the ECOWAS peacekeeping mission in The Gambia was an intervention to remedy constitutional crisis that ensued after the controversial presidential election of 2016.
