Niger Governor warns against illegal tax collection

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, declares that individuals engaged in illegal revenue collection or the production and distribution of fraudulent government documents will face severe legal consequences.

This statement comes in response to the apprehension of revenue service officers in the Bosso Local Government Area for unlawfully printing and selling counterfeit motor vehicle documents and emblems.

The Chairman, Niger State Internal Revenue Service (NGSIRS), Mohammed Etsu Madami, the statement highlights the violation of Section 32, Subsections (3), (4), and (6) of the Niger State Tax Administration and Consolidation Law 2022 by the implicated revenue service officers.

Issuing a final warning through the statement, the government emphasizes its commitment to taking legal action against anyone involved in the illicit collection of revenue or the fabrication and dissemination of counterfeit government documents and items.

Furthermore, the service reiterates its dedication to fulfilling its statutory mandate of optimizing revenue generation by eliminating all forms of leakages and pursuing legal action against revenue generation saboteurs.
