NBA Ilorin holds dinner in honour of Legal luminary, Adegboyega Awomolo

The Kwara State Banquet Hall in Ilorin on Friday evening was filled to its brim as the Ilorin Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) held its 2024 Dinner in honour of Asiwaju Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, the Chairman of Body of Benchers.

The event, which drew wigs and gowns of ranks was marked with pomp and pageantry and culminated in the presentation of award of excellence to distinguished personalities, celebrating their impactful contributions to the development of the bar and the bench.

Dr. Taiye Oniyide, SAN, the chairman of the dinner organising committee stressed that the event is more than a social gathering but an opportunity for the members of the association to build strong relationship, celebrate the profession and inspire each other for a greater heights.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the NBA Ilorin, Branch, Sulyman Muhammad-Hassan Kosemani stated that the event was in one part a celebration of the members’ accomplishments over the past year and also in honour of Chief Awomolo who was also the branch chairman between 1991 to 1992.

“This event is not just about the celebration of the members’ accomplishment over the past year but also an opportunity to reflect on the journey, renew our commitments and fortify our bonds as a united legal community” he noted

The Chairman extolled the virtues and contributions of Chief Awomolo, in the legal profession, noting that his impacts will continue to resonate with generations to come.

“This year’s Dinner is in honour of the past chairman of the branch between 1991 to 1992, the former chairman of the Council of Chairmen of the NBA that restructured the NBA and presently, the Chairman of Body of Benchers, Asiwaju Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN.

He added “It is on record that, it was Chief Awomolo-led Committee of Chairmen and Secretaries of the Nigerian Bar Association that successfully orchestrated actions that led to the rebirth of the NBA at the national level.

Speaking at the event, Chief Awomolo, who was represented by Rev. John Olusola Baiyeshea, SAN, commended the leadership and members of NBA Ilorin Branch for their steadfastenss in keeping the association going.

While he appreciated the association for the honour done on him, he urged them to continue to uphold the rule of law and the ethics of the legal profession. Chief Awomolo, who was also presented with an award of excellence made a donation of one million naira to the association.

Some of the distinguished personalities who were honoured at the event include the Attorney General of Kwara State, Senior Sulyman Ibrahim; CEO of Lubcon Nigeria Limited, Alhaji Jani Ibrahim and General Secretary of the NBA National Headquarters, Dr. Mobolaji Ojibara.

Other awardees are Dr.Taiye Oniyede, SAN, FCIARB; Leader 10th Kwara State House of Assembly, Honourable Mogaji Oba Abdulkadir; CEO of Peace Pharmaceuticals, Chief Samuel Akinlaja; Late Hon. Justice S.T. Daibu and Late Hon. Justice Sikiru Oyinloye.

The event, which was also graced by the Chief Judge of Kwara State, Hon. Justice Abiodun Adebara witnessed presentation of award to the past executive of the NBA Ilorin Branch.
