Navy dismantles illegal refining site in Niger Delta
Personnel of the Nigerian Navy Ship Delta have successfully uncovered and destroyed a dump site utilized for illegal refining activities in the creeks of the Niger Delta region.
The Commander of NNS Delta, Commodore Abdulazeez Zubairu, shared details with journalists in Warri on Saturday, describing the operation as part of ongoing efforts to combat crude oil theft, illegal oil refining, and pipeline vandalism within the NNS-Delta area.
“This discovery follows intelligence on the activities of illegal bunkerers in the creeks,” Commodore Zubairu noted.
As part of the operation, fourteen naval personnel were deployed to the area on June 19, 2025, equipped with two gunboats and one speedboat.
The team proceeded to the Obotebe community in Burutu Local Government Area, where they identified the site used for illegal refining.
“From the illegal refining site, we recovered a 1.5 horsepower Yamaha engine, one generator, six pumping machines, and two rolls of hoses, among other items,” the Commander revealed.
He emphasized that “this exercise aligns with Operation Delta Sanity 11, implementing the strategic directives of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla.”
