At a time when we all thought Unionism is going back to the days, when union leaders fights against the forces of feudalism, parochialism and tyranny in both the school and political system, comes a very saddened press release from the leadership of the National Association of Nigeria Student(NANS/Kwara axis) duly signed by the chairman, com. Fodio, a graduate of the Kwara state University, MALETE.
To start with, like a colleague of mine wrote a few days ago, being a graduate does not only disqualify him from continuing as the chairman, but also shows the ill-state of our union today, as how can a student who has less than a semester in school be allowed to contest for a year office? For sure such student will have no other priority than to trail one politician to another for him to have access to the corridor of power, and that is what exactly is happening.
In recent time, the congratulatory message which came as a shock to Kwara state students came after the senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki was discharged, by the code of conduct tribunal, of the 18 count charges which all centered on abuse of office, slammed on him by the federal government of the federation. The release among other numerous sycophantic messages reads that the senate President trail was “politically motivated” and the allegations against him were all “fabricated”, even when the senate President himself knows fully well that he committed most of this atrocities leveled against him, little wonder he kept running from court to court for the trail not to see the light of the day, yet our own student leaders are unnecessary defending him.
Let our student union leaders comes out to tell us what warrant this release, is it the classroom he built for students of the Kwara state college of Education, lafiagi or the hostels he constructed at college of health, Offa? Is it the lecture halls he provided for the students of Kwara state college of Education, Ilorin or the stable electricity he helped maintain at the federal polytechnic, offa? Yet all our student leaders could do is to turn themselves to sycophantic dogs and political tool.
