The National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) has fixed Wednesday, January 6, for its 2021 national election/convention in a bid to elect new executives to pilot the affairs of the association for another one year.
The Chairman of the Electoral Body, Sa’ad Baqi, made this known during a conversation with THE INFORMANT247 on the sideline of Manifesto of the aspirants in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital on Saturday.
He said, “We can all agree that for democracy to work, every person’s voice matters. If there are those whose voice is weaker, or who are hampered in presenting their views or seeking access to their government or systems, they deserve special focus and help.
“It is upon this recognition that this manifesto would be focused on equality of opportunity, independent ideological concept, economic self-sufficiency, and full participation.
“This is the first and last goal, equality of opportunity and full participation that will guide the attribute of time and positions to all aspirants today and the participation of the Nakssites as they engage their future leaders.”
He hinted that a total of 51 candidates are contesting for 23 seats. The presidential aspirants include: Arogundade Johnson, Muftau Mubarak Shittu, Jimoh Bashir Omobolaji, Adeyenju Thomas Sunday and Popoola .R. Adekunle.
He assured there will be no unnecessary postponement of the election, saying “it is important to follow the guidelines released on the timetable for the election”.
He appreciated the members of the NAKSS who have made everything possible with the unanimous cooperation and resolution towards the association’s progress.
