Naira crisis: protesters block Benin-Ore expressway

Angry protesters on Friday blocked the Benin-Ore-Lagos highway in Odigbo local government area over the scarcity of new naira notes, lamenting that no bank in Ondo State has been paying out money since Wednesday.

The Informant247 gathered that large crowd was seen in several ATM points in Akure, the state capital, saying no cash was dispensed.

Passengers were stranded at the highway, including the overhead bridge in Ore, following the incident.

It was reported that the protesters also set up bonfires on the highway, while lamenting that they were suffering as they could not have access to their monies in the banks.

“We the masses are suffering, people are hungry, we are protesting to show our grievances, there is no vehicular movement here.”

Another protester, Jimoh, said he has been to over five banks but he was told ‘no cash.’
