NAHCON urges compliance with Hajj regulations for 2025 pilgrims
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) is urging Nigerian pilgrims preparing for the 2025 Hajj to strictly adhere to all rules and regulations during their pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
At the flag-off ceremony for the first batch of pilgrims held at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri, Imo State, NAHCON’s Executive Chairman, Prof. Abdullahi Usman, emphasized the importance of discipline and proper representation. “You are about to undertake one of the most important journeys of your lives as Duyufur-Rahman (Guests of Allah). Represent Nigeria well. Obey your officials. Follow the rules of the Kingdom and those of your country,” he stated.
The inaugural flight, which was launched by Vice President Kashim Shettima in collaboration with Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, will transport 315 pilgrims from Abia, Bayelsa, and Imo to Saudi Arabia.
Usman also highlighted the significance of health during the pilgrimage, particularly in managing hydration due to the expected high temperatures in the region. “Keep yourselves away from harm, whether natural or man-made, by obeying guidelines. Drink plenty of water and juice to remain healthy,” he advised the pilgrims.
As of May 9, a total of 64,188 Nigerian pilgrims have registered for the 2025 Hajj, including those sponsored by states and private tour operators. Usman assured that NAHCON has made comprehensive arrangements for the seamless reception of pilgrims at the airports in Madinah and Jeddah. “Our target is to complete the entire transportation operation within two weeks, God willing,” he declared.
Reflecting on his eight months in office, Usman noted the commission’s commitment to making Hajj more affordable and accessible. “By the mercy of Allah, and with the support of government and stakeholders, we succeeded in stabilizing the cost of Hajj in spite of global inflation and currency fluctuations,” he mentioned.
He also celebrated a significant achievement—the acquisition of Tent A Plus in Mina for VIP pilgrims, marking a transformative moment in the history of Nigeria’s Hajj efforts. Usman expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and Shettima for their consistent support, stating, “Their leadership inspires us to serve our pilgrims with excellence and dedication.”
