N96b alleged fraud: Supreme Court dismisses Amaechi’s appeal to stop probe

The Supreme Court, has dismissed the appeal by the former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Amaechi had appealed against the decision of the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike.

Recall that Wike had set up a seven-man panel to probe his (Amaechi) eight year tenure as Governor.

The highest court has held that the appeal by the former governor (Amaechi) has no substance and awarded N1million cost against him.

The panel has been set up to investigate some transactions of about N96billion done by Amaechi when he was the Rivers State Governor.

The Rivers State government has claimed that Amaechi had fraudulently sold some state’s assets.

Amaechi has thereafter challenged the setting up of the panel at the High Court, stating that the probe was an attempt to witch-hunt, embarrass and humiliate him.

His suit at the High Court of Rivers State was however dismissed. His similar loss of the case at the Court of Appeal made him to approach the Supreme Court.
