Moro elders fire back at Ilorin Emirate, insist on secession
Elders of communities in Moro LGA of Kwara State have fired back at the Ilorin Emirate Council over it recent comment.
The Emirate Council had cautioned the Kwara State government against acceding to the request for the elevation of the traditional chiefs of Jebba and Shao in Moro Local Government Area of the state.
However, responding to this, the Moro communities in a statement released by Moro Concern Elders Movement and jointly signed by it President, Alhaji Isiaka Ayinde Jimoh, Secretary, Dr Bolaji Alabi Afolabi and PRO, Chief Theophilus Sunday Oyeniyi, asked the state government to ignore the Emirate’s Council’s “caution”, describing it as “anti-people and unconstitutional”.
They insists on not allowing misinformation, distortion of facts, outright and deliberate attempts to confuse both the public and the Kwara State Government on the issues of grading of traditional Rulers in Moro Local Government Area.
The statement reads, “Way back in the early 20th century, during the colonial period, precisely in 1903, the Ohoro of Shao for example, was graded 5th class. It should also be noted that both Ohoro of Shao and Oba of Jebba were accorded recognition and grading by both the administration of Alhaji Adamu Attah and Mohammed Alabi Lawal respectively.”
Stating their demands, they requested the Kwara State Government to implement the white paper of 17 December 1987 which directed that the appointment of District Heads from Ilorin for Moro Local Government Area be abolished andappointments be made from among the indigenes of the LGA.
The statement added, “Immediate implementation of the various court judgments in favor of Moro LGA on traditional institution, such as the judgments in suit no. KWS/231/894 of 22/10/1997 delivered Justice Ibiwoye as well as that of Hon. Justice Oluyemisi Ajayi.
They further seek for the upgrading of traditional rulers in the local council.
The consequently asked for the stoppage of the deductions of 5% from the Federal Government allocations of Moro to Ilorin Emirate, saying it is illegal.
