MKO Abiola’s son wants Buhari to investigate father’s death
One of the sons of the late Chief MKO Abiola, Mr Abdul Abiola, has requested that President Muhammadu Buhari investigate into the circumstances that caused the death of his father.
He made this appeal via his Twitter handle @AbdulMKO on Tuesday.
He said it was high time Nigerians knew the truth behind the death of his father, stating that the President should look into the archives.
He said this would assist the president to unveil the circumstances surrounding the death of MKO, as that could be the only step towards justice.
“It’s time for the Nigerian people to know the Truth as to what happened in the post-June 12, 1993 Elections.
“And also, what led to the death of MKO Abiola and Kudirat Abiola and other unsung heroes.
“I urge President Muhammadu Buhari to look into our country archives for justice to prevail,” he said.
Recall that MKO Abiola presumably won the June 12, 1993 presidential elections, whose result was reportedly canceled by the then head of state, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida.
Abiola, therefore however made a formal declaration of himself as the president, in what was referred to as Epetedo declaration.
He was thereafter arrested on the order of late Gen. Sani Abacha, the then head of state.
It should also be recalled that President Buhari had also posthumously honoured Abiola with GCFR, the highest title any Nigerian can hold and which is specially preserved for the President of Nigeria.
President Buhari also declared June 12 as Democracy Day which was against the then May 29.
