Man remanded in prison over alleged possession of firearm in Kaduna
25-year-old man, Benson Friday, was on Tuesday, remanded in correctonal facility over alleged possession of a firearm.
The man was remanded on Tuesday on the order of a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The defendant who reside att Malali in Kaduna State, was charged by the police with illegal possession of firearm.
Insp. Chidi Leo, the prosecutor, had informed the court that the defendant carried out the offence on October 15, around 10.30 p.m. at Malali.
Leo revealed that a team of police, who were acting on intelligence report, apprehended the defendant while conducting a security search on his residence and recovered a locally-made firearm from him.
He added that the defendant was not able to present a satisfactory explanation about how he got the firearm.
The prosecutor also explained that the offence was a violation of the provisions of Section 54 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017
Ibrahim Emmanuel, the magistrate, rejected the plea of the defendant, and directed that he be remanded in a correctional facility.
Emmanuel ordered the police to transfer the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs) for necessary legal advice.
He has adjourned the matter until November 29 for mention.
