Man appears in court over alleged stealing of bibles in Lagos

Godwin Idumu, 37, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of four bibles worth N72,230 from a supermarket.

The defendant, who’s a sales representative residing at 9 Emmanuel St., Maryland, Lagos, is standing trial tried for stealing and defilement.

Insp Felicia Okwori, the prosecutor informed the court that the offences were carried out on Dec. 4, 2021 and June 3, 2022 at Ebeano Supermarket, located at G.R.A, Ikeja.

The prosecutor added that the defendant was at the supermarket in December and illegally took away two bibles, worth N51,080.

He further explained that the defendant was caught through the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) after he had left.

The prosecutor narrated that the defendant returned to the supermarket again and illegally took another two bibles worth N21,150 but was caught on his way out.

The prosecutor narrated that the defendant has stolen bibles worth N72,230, from Ebeano Supermarket.

Okwori added that the offence, was in contravention of the provisions of Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant has pleaded not guilty to the offence of which he was charged.

Mrs H. B Mogaji, the Magistrate, has granted the defendant bail of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

Mogaji has adjourned the matter until Nov. 25 for trial.
