Man, 34, arrested for defiling minor in Osun

A 34-year-old man, Oluwabunmi Anifowose, has been arrested by the operatives of Ekiti State Amotekun Corps for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl at Efon Alaaye in the Efon Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

According to Brigadier General Olu Adewa (retd.), the Ekiti Amotekun Corps Commander, the suspect was arrested on Saturday at a hideout at Ijebu-Ijesha in Osun State, where he had run to in a bid to escape arrest.

A statement on Sunday by the Head of Communications, Ekiti Amotekun Corps, Abiodun Adeleye, said that information had it that the minor was sent on an errand to buy fufu from another street when the suspects accosted her and the consequent rape incident occurred.

The corps commander stated, “The Amotekun officers noted that the suspect was arrested in Ijebu-Ijesha, Osun State, where he was hiding himself in the midst of his colleagues who were suspected to be cult members.

“The suspect has been handed over to the police at Efon Ekiti Division for further investigation and necessary action.”

He added that Amotekun operatives at Ikole Ekiti also, on the same day, arrested two men—30-year-old Mr Usman Sheidu and 32-year-old gateman Mr Olalekan Aluko—for allegedly stealing an iron door at the Oke-ljebu Agege area in the Ikole Local Government Area.

He said, “Upon interrogation by the arresting Amotekun officers, the two suspects confessed to the crime. The duo have since been handed over to the Divisional Police in Ikole Ekiti for further profiling.

Adewa, who said that there was no hiding place for criminals in the state, called on residents to volunteer information that could help security agents, including Amotekun, to arrest suspects and prevent the commission of crimes.
