Makinde renames Ibadan Poly to honour ex-gov Olunloyo
In a heartfelt tribute to the late Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde has officially renamed The Polytechnic, Ibadan to Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan.
The announcement was made during the state burial ceremony for the elder statesman held in the capital city, Ibadan, on Thursday.
Dr. Olunloyo, who served as governor of the old Oyo State during the brief Second Republic from October to December 1983, holds the distinction of being the first indigene of Ibadan to assume the gubernatorial role. His legacy includes a significant tenure as the Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
Governor Makinde emphasized the importance of this renaming, highlighting Dr. Olunloyo’s vital contributions to both education and public service in the state. “This gesture is not just about renaming an institution; it is a tribute to a great man whose impact will be felt for generations,” Makinde stated.
