Lockdown: Residents, security operatives ignore Kwara govt’s order

Again, residents of Ilorin have trooped out in search of means of survival, defying the Kwara State Government’s new lockdown order.

Our correspondent observed residents went contrary to the government’s newly reiterated directive in most part of the metropolis.

Security operatives also removed roadblocks to give residents free movement.

The government had, on Wednesday, reviewed its earlier decision to allow vehicles to move on days earlier designated for restocking of foods and other essentials, directing residents to instead patronise neighbourhood shops and observe all safety protocols.

After observation that residents are defying the makeshift order, the government again on Sunday reiterated its earlier stand, saying any violator will be prosecuted.

Our correspondent however observed that while the markets were fully opened, traders also displayed their goods by the roadside with no respect for any precautionary measure against the coronavirus.

Likewise, commercial and private morists defied the cessation of movement order.

As at 9:30, our correspondent observed that phones shops, electronics stores, bookstores among other non-essential shops are opened, likewise traffic jam across the metropolis.
