Lockdown: Motorist, security operatives clash in Ilorin

There was a mid drama on Saturday in Ita-amon area of Ilorin metropolis aa a commercial motorist clash with security operatives.

The commercial motorist — otherwise known as taxi driver has on board his wife and son — defied the lockdown order and was flagged back by a combined team of VGN, OPC and Sheriff Gurads who maned the road.

The driver however claimed to be rushing his sick wife to the hospital for medical attention

According to THE INFORMANT247 corespondents who witnessed the incident, the motorist explanation failed to yield result which prompted him to battle security operatives thereby creating a scene.

The unidentified driver was later released after the intervention from members of the community.

Speaking with an eye-witness and resident of the locality, he appealed to the government and police to train supporting security outfits ways to handle emergency situation.

The resident who pleaded anonymity said, “There are no much professional security outfits here except for only the private outfits, so there is need for them to be train how house to handle emergency issue. Emergency is emergency and needs urgent attention. Once they are able to accertain the motorist claim, then they should let them go immediately.”

Recall that the government had reviewed its earlier decision to allow vehicles to move on days earlier designated for restocking of foods and other essentials, directing residents to instead patronise neighbourhood shops and observe all safety protocols.

The review barred commercial and private vehicles from operating, except trucks and trailers conveying food stuffs, medicines and other essential workers.
