Lockdown: Mixed reactions trail violation of Kwara govt’s order

Reactions have continued to trail residents and security operatives defiance to the lockdown order by the Kwara State Government.

The government had, on Wednesday, reviewed its earlier decision to allow vehicles to move on days earlier designated for restocking of foods and other essentials, directing residents to instead patronise neighbourhood shops and observe all safety protocols.

After observation that residents are defying the makeshift order, the government again on Sunday reiterated its earlier stand, saying any violator will be prosecuted.

However, THE INFORMANT247 reported that Kwara residents trooped out in search of means of survival, defying the Kwara State Government’s new lockdown order.

Likewise, security operatives also removed roadblocks to give residents free movement.

While some social media users cite the tense relationship between the commisoner of police and the state governor, other choose stand that the state government is not providing enough logistics for the security agencies to enforce the lockdown directive.

Reacting, The Publisher of Freshinsight Newspaper said, “Kudos to the Informant247 crew, I think the Committee led by the Deputy Governor and the security agencies needs to be more serious and up and doing. Why should the Deputy Governor and the Commissioner of Police address the press yesterday, saying they’ll arrest whoever flouts the total lockdown order, yet the police went ahead overnight to dismantle all roadblocks and nothing seem to be happening with regards to enforcement.

“If the Committee isn’t logistically ready for total lockdown, they should just let us know, so they’ll stop making Kwara look unorganized in the face of the nation. This is errant nonsense and an embarrassment.”

According to @Mashood, “Whatever is the reason the State Government will be having a stand and th security agencies will be having another stand must be looked into.

On his part, @Meagbye said, “Seems the government needs to take charge of security agencies in the state, the government should oil their machineries, that’s the only way its efforts wouldn’t be sabotaged, a rumour that the security agencies aren’t happy with the government of the day have been flying for a long time, this period has shown it’s true”

Reacting in the same vein, @AA said, “The problem is multifaceted. Yes, realistically the govt should oil the security machinery. Because for the police, especially, there’s NO free launch anywhere.

“The dilemma is oiling the police is a non-ending baazar and yet the officers will complain that the motivation doesn’t trickle down. And then we will be back to sqaure one!

“What they’ve been doing at the roadblocks is unimaginable. It’s now a survival point, a bribe point for the security agents and no longer a roadblock.

“There’s no Governor that’s not going to encounter and be frustrated by this quagmire of a federalism, where security agents whose primary responsibility is to secure the populace with a Governor sitting atop such architecture, have to be BRIBED before they can do anything.

“That’s why sometimes, when Wike exhibits his madness, the underlying issues are hard to overlook. It’s quite unfortunate, walahi.”

Meanwhile, the Kwara Police Public Relations Officer, Dsp Ajayi Okasanmi when contacted by our correspondent denied allegations saying they have made a number of arrests.
