[Lockdown] Day 5: Ilorin residents ignore govt’s makeshift order
Residents of communities in Ilorin on Wednesday violated the Kwara State Government’s new lockdown order.
Our correspondent observed residents went contrary to the government’s directive in most part of the metropolis.
The government had, on Wednesday, reviewed its earlier decision to allow vehicles to move on days earlier designated for restocking of foods and other essentials, directing residents to instead patronise neighbourhood shops and observe all safety protocols.
The review barred commercial and private vehicles from operating, except trucks and trailers conveying food stuffs, medicines and other essential workers.
One of our correspondents, who was in Oja-Oba area between 12 pm and 1 pm, observed that while the market was fully opened, traders also displayed their goods by the roadside.
Likewise, commercial and private motorists defied the cessation of movement order.
Okada riders were seen on the streets as they moved passengers from one location to another.
Unlike the first 4 days when the roads were almost empty, there were movements of vehicles across the major streets.
However, security personnel consisting of the police, FRSC, DSS, NIS, NCS among several others outfit chased away resident from streets and mount roadblocks around 12pm.
Consequently, the order was partially obeyed in the evening as only few vehicles were on street and roadsides market were half opened.
