LG polls: No plans to conduct primaries yet, says Kwara PDP
The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party says the national leadership of the party and the State Executive Committee have not released any guidelines for the conduct of primaries for local government council elections in the state.
The state chairman of the Party, Hon. Kola Shittu disclosed this on Wednesday during a meeting with chairmen of PDP in the 16 local government areas of the State.
Shittu was reacting to a media report about the emergence of PDP candidate for the yet-to-be announced council election in Irepodun LG.
The PDP chair said the electoral body that is responsible for conducting council elections has not been constituted by the State Government.
According to him, there can be no primary elections until the electoral commission is constituted and the guidelines released by the leadership of the party.
Shittu said, “The Kwara PDP therefore dissociates itself from the conduct of primary election in any local government area of the State.
“All party chairmen across the 16 local government areas are therefore advised to note that directive regarding the conduct of primaries for the envisaged council elections shall be communicated to them by the leadership of the party at the appropriate time.
“We urge our LG party chairmen to go back to their respective areas and work to further strengthen the unity of the party and galvanise party members ahead of the envisaged council elections.
“The party also encourages members to welcome and extend of hands of fellowship to those who are willing to join the party.”
