Lawyers to defend Tinubu’s victory in court rise to 50 – APC PCC

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC PCC) has revealed that the number of legal practitioners standing for the presidential candidate of the party, Senator Bola Tinubu in court had risen to 50.

The Informant247 recalls that the presidential candidates of the two main opposition parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), had dragged Tinubu to court over his emergence as winner in the just concluded presidential election.

The two leading opposition parties, in separate suits, said they have evidence to prove that the February 25 presidential election was not free and fair.

The APC initially announced the selection of 12 senior legal experts to defend the mandate of the president elect in court.

The PCC Director of Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, said the total number of legal practitioners who scheduled to defend Tinubu’s mandate had increased to 50.

He said, “The earlier list released by the APC partially just reflects the lawyers who will be involved in the case. It does not capture the full picture. I am aware, for instance, that Wole Olaonipekun is the leader of the team. And of course, the man who has been representing Asiwaju all these while in the court, Babatunde Ogala, is also a member of the team.

“I am aware that what we have in the public arena is just a partial list. There is no conflict concerning it. But there is an ongoing move to harmonise the list as one. Altogether, I think there are about 50 of them in all.”

The Informant247 recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Bola Tinubu as the winner of the presidential election.

According to INEC, Tinubu came victorious with 8.8 million votes.

The presidential candidate of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar came second with 6.9 million votes.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, had 6.1 million votes.

Atiku and Obi who were not comfortable with the outcome of the February 25 presidential election have filed petitions at the election tribunal to challenge the emergence of Tinubu as the Nigerian leader.
