Lafiagi resident writes Gov AbdulRazaq, laments lack of electricity, roads, potable water
Residents of the Lafiagi community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State have decried the absence of basic amenities such as electricity, good roads, and access to potable water, among other facilities that could enhance their quality of life.
In a letter signed by a resident, Manzuma Aliyu Koguna, he appealed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to address the critical challenges affecting their daily lives, describing the situation as a grim picture of the hardships faced by residents.
He added that women and children, in particular, bear the brunt of the water crisis, as they are forced to wake up at midnight in search of water due to the absence of a functional water supply system.
The letter further states, “The community is pleading with the state government to prioritize the restoration of a reliable water supply to alleviate their suffering.”
“Electricity supply in Lafiagi has also been a source of frustration for both residents and businesses. The community’s power supply was reportedly downgraded, leading to frequent outages and disruptions.”

The letter calls on the governor to engage the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to restore Lafiagi’s electricity to the 33kV line, which would ensure a stable power supply and boost economic activities in the area.
The letter added, “Lastly, the deplorable condition of our access roads continues to hinder movement and economic growth. The bad roads pose a daily struggle for commuters, traders, and farmers who rely on them for their livelihoods. We earnestly seek your intervention in rehabilitating these roads to ease transportation and enhance development in our community.
“Your Excellency, we acknowledge your commitment to the welfare of the people of Kwara State, and we remain hopeful that you will swiftly come to our aid. The people of Lafiagi trust in your leadership and eagerly look forward to your urgent response to these pressing concerns.”
