KWSG reaffirms commitment to quality infrastructure with Asa council project inspections
The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring public funds are judiciously utilized in line with global standards for the benefit of citizens. This assurance was given by the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Community Development, Hon. Abubakar Abdullahi Bata, during his unscheduled visit to inspect ongoing ecological projects in Asa Local Government Area.
In a Statement Signed by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Oba Azeez Bolaji stated in a follow-up to a previous inspection, Hon. Bata visited project sites, including the construction of culverts at Ubandawaki and Adeleji villages, as well as drainage works along Alapa Road. The aim was to assess compliance with project specifications and ensure quality delivery.
The Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the work at Adeleji village, noting adherence to standards. However, he voiced disappointment over the slow pace and deviations from the Bill of Quantity in the construction of the Ubandawaki culvert and drainage control at Alapa Road. He directed the council to strengthen its project monitoring and compliance units to ensure the rectification of lapses and adherence to specifications.
Hon. Bata assured residents that the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq remains committed to delivering high-quality projects across the state, warning contractors that substandard work would not be tolerated. He promised to revisit the sites to evaluate progress, urging the contractor handling the Alapa drainage project to expedite work without further delays.
Speaking during the visit, the Commissioner stated, “the Ministry under my watch will in no position dictate to any Local Government in the State over the choices and location of projects but the Ministry is only exercising the cabinet responsibilities by ensuring that things are done in accordance with the lay down rules and there is justification for public funds usage,”
Communities in Ubandawaki expressed satisfaction with the progress of their culvert project, commending the government for the intervention. The Commissioner, however, urged the council to sustain its strict supervision and address previous lapses observed during earlier visits.
The Executive Chairman of Asa Local Government, Hon. Shehu Amosa Yahaya, represented by the Director of Personnel Management, Chief Kinrinjin Alao Adebara, appreciated the Commissioner for his proactive approach. He disclosed that the council had intensified its monitoring efforts to ensure all projects are executed to standard and other council activities are properly managed.
Hon. Yahaya also appealed to other communities awaiting similar interventions to remain patient, assuring them that they would be included in subsequent project phases.
The visit underscores the state government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the delivery of quality infrastructure for its citizens.
