The Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, Professor Muhammad Mustapha Akanbi, SAN has flagged off the installation of a 114 million Naira worth of solar power system equipment to ensure adequate and sustainable power supply on campus.
Akanbi, while speaking at the flag of the installation of the equipment earlier this week, said that improved electricity supply will not only aid KWASU in achieving its mandates of teaching, research, and community development but also, guarantee the security of lives and property on campus.
According to him, the KWASU solar farm which is currently generating 300kW electrical energy will generate an additional 300kW of electricity when the installation of the solar energy equipment is finally completed.
The University Helms-Man commended the Director and Staff of the Center for Sustainable Energy, for exciting the lofty project despite being one of the youngest centers in the University. He charged other directorates to renew their efforts in seeking innovative solutions to challenges facing the University.
Meanwhile, the Director of Center for Sustainable Energy, Professor Kajogbola Ajao for his part pointed out that the solar equipment which was realised through the efforts of a staff of the Center, Mr. Teslim Balogun, was donated by the Government of The Republic of Lithuania. He noted that the solar panels will boost the power generation from the solar farm from its present 300kW capacity to 600kW.
