Kwara unveils renovated General Hospital to boost healthcare access
The Kwara State Government has pledged to enhance access to quality healthcare for residents, assuring Kwarans of better health services through the renovation of key health facilities. This pledge was highlighted by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, during the recent inauguration of the fully renovated General Hospital located in Afon, the headquarters of Asa Local Government Area.
During the unveiling ceremony, Dr. El-Imam reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and urged the community to make full use of the newly upgraded hospital. She emphasized the importance of community support in maintaining the facility and maximizing its benefits for the residents.
The Commissioner pointed out that the extensive investment in refurbishing and equipping the hospital is a clear indication of the government’s commitment to addressing healthcare needs, particularly at the grassroots level. “This project represents another major stride in our ongoing efforts to elevate healthcare services and infrastructure across the state,” she remarked.
Dr. El-Imam also called on the Asa Local Government Council to take proactive measures in maintaining the hospital, ensuring it serves its purpose effectively while boosting local patronage. She further encouraged community stakeholders to participate in health initiatives, specifically by facilitating health insurance enrollment for vulnerable populations.
Hon. Seun Oguniyi, the Chairman of the House Committee on Health and representative for Ojomu/Balogun Constituency, echoed the sentiments of the Commissioner, stating that the upgraded hospital is now sufficiently equipped to meet the healthcare needs of Afon and its neighboring communities. He commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for placing a strong emphasis on the health and well-being of the state’s citizens.
The Chairman of Asa Local Government Area, Alhaji Yahyah Shehu, expressed gratitude to the state government for its support and urged local residents to continue backing the administration to ensure further benefits from ongoing developmental projects and improved services.
The event attracted notable dignitaries, including Hon. Yinusa Oniboki, member representing Afon Constituency, Hon. Rukayat Shittu from Owode Onire Constituency, alongside community leaders and other important stakeholders, reflecting a united front in promoting better healthcare access in Kwara State.
