Kwara United defeat Kano Pillars 2-0 in Ilorin

Kwara United delivered an impressive performance in Matchday 28 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), securing a 2-0 win over Kano Pillars at the Rashidi Yekini Main Bowl, George Innih Stadium, on Sunday.

The Harmony Boys dominated from the start, controlling possession through Akanni Akeem and Shola AbdulRaheem in midfield, while Ibrahim Yahaya and Segun Adekunle anchored the defense to ensure a solid backline.

Their relentless pressure paid off in the 20th minute when Shola AbdulRaheem was fouled in the box, leading the referee to award a penalty. Wasiu Alalade stepped up confidently and converted from the spot to send the packed stadium into wild celebrations.

Despite the efforts of Kano Pillars, led by Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa, Kwara United maintained their dominance, pressing for more goals.

In the second half, super-substitute Wasiu Jimoh made an immediate impact, firing a thunderous strike from close range to double the lead, thus sealed a well-deserved victory.

Kano Pillars had a few late chances, but outstanding performances from Jimoh Gbadamosi and Nurudeen Badmus thwarted any comeback attempts.

Coach Tunde Sanni expressed his delight after the match, commending his players for their commitment and execution of the game plan.

“The way my players approached this game reflects our position on the log. This victory is well-deserved.”

Dignitaries at the stadium included Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, APC chieftain Ambassador Yayaha Seriki, and the Executive Chairman of the Kwara Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Magaji, who all cheered the team to victory.

With this win, Kwara United is guaranteed 5 million naira Courtesy of Ambassador Yayaha Seriki. They now have 39 points from 28 matches, moving up to 10th place on the NPFL table. Their next challenge will be an away fixture against Rangers in Enugu next weekend.
