Kwara United beat Wikki Tourists, deny them attraction in Ilorin
The own goal from Wikki Tourists’ Ebuka Anekwe in the 53rd minutes would ultimately decide their NPFL match day 3 encounter against Kwara United in Ilorin.
The ‘unlucky’ Wikki Tourist threw in their young aces in to the game and gave the home team , who defeated Dakkada FC 3-0 in their last home match a run for their money.
While the home side were faced with the need for redemption after suffering a 1 nil defeat against Plateau United away from home in their last game ,the visitors also perhaps had a ‘litmus test’ to pass having won their last game against Niger Tornadoes 1-0.
Junior Lokosa’s efforts in the 9th minutes for Kwara United would have grabbed the opener, but was ruled offside by the Referee.
Coming back from the break after a goalless first half, Kwara United kept on with their impressive form which eventually paid off some 8 minutes in to the kick off when Ebuka Anekwe mistakenly headed home a free kick against his team.
The visitors summed up a fierce reaction but had a tough time breaking the defense of the home side.
Speaking after the game, Coach Abdullahi Biffo of Kwara United admitted it was a difficult game against the visitors from Bauchi, who he said are not a ‘pushover’ in the league.
“It’s a difficult game because the team we played gave a good fight- you can see that they opened up and they didn’t play as if they are in away they were looking for goal everywhere and we got the goal due to the pressure on them” said Biffo
In his own reaction, Coach Kabiru Dogo who also doubles as a traditional title holder(Magaji Odo-Okun Ilorin) at the Emir of Ilorin’s Palace stated that his boys gave a good account of themselves despite the defeat.
The former Sunshine Stars and Lobi Stars gaffer pointed out lost of concentration, occasioned by the injury on one of his player, Muritala Dagbo as the reason for the goal scored.
Coach Dogo said “So far so good , we were able to achieve something out of this game, in the area of stability. Because what I met on ground was zero, but thank God it’s getting shape gradually and I believe before the end of the season it will get better, so it’s not about continental now but having stability”.
The ‘Harmony Boys’ will face Abia Warriors in their next game away from home while Wikki, who who are still having an outstanding game will plays host to MFM FC of Lagos.
Kwara United are currently occupying fourth position on the log with six points while the Bauchi based team seats 12th on the table with three points.
