Kwara trains 2,600 newly recruited forest guards

A total number of 2,600 newly recruited forest guards are currently being trained in Ilorin, Kwara State Capital as the government intensify efforts against insecurity.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Monday visited the training ground of the newly recruited 2,600 additional forest guards in Ilorin to assess the quality of their ongoing multifaceted training.

This was contained in a statement released by Olayinka Fafoluyi, Senior Special Assistant, new media to the Kwara State Governor.

Soo far, over 700 forest guards who have been recruited, trained in basic military tactics by the State are now working alongside security agencies to strengthen surveillance and combat security challenges.

According to the statement, “the governor used the visit to encourage the prospective guards and their instructors, a move that reflects his administration’s continued commitment to improving the security of lives and property across the state.

The statement noted that the governor’ presence, at the facility is expected to further lift the morale of the trainees and reassure residents, especially those in communities affected by recent threats, that concrete steps are being taken to enhance safety and restore calm in rural areas.

It said “Officials at the training centre noted that the recruits have shown steady progress since the programme began, adding that the hands-on sessions are preparing them for field operations once they are deployed.

The state government maintains that it is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to stabilise the troubled parts of the state.

The forest guards are expected to complement the efforts of the military by ensuring that the reclaimed areas remain unsafe for criminal elements.

The Northern and Southern parts of Kwara State have become flashpoints of insecurity with banditry, kidnapping and killings causing disruption to socioeconomic and well being of the people.
