Kwara to establish bio-fertilizer facility in partnership with Contec Global Agro Limited
The Kwara State Government is set to launch a transformative partnership with Contec Global Agro Limited, a leading agro-biotechnology company, to create a state-of-the-art bio-fertilizer manufacturing facility.
This initiative aims to advance climate-smart agriculture, encourage local input production, and drive inclusive economic growth within the State.
The announcement was made during a working visit to Abuja by Dr. Afees Abolore Alabi, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development. While discussions for a preliminary agreement are ongoing, this partnership is part of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s broader vision to modernize agriculture through innovative practices and private sector collaboration.
Dr. Alabi referred to the partnership as a potential game-changer for the State’s agricultural economy. The facility is designed to produce 100% organic agricultural solutions tailored to the unique soil types found in Kwara.
It is anticipated that the plant will restore degraded soil, boost crop productivity, and reduce farmers’ reliance on chemical inputs, adding that this initiative aims to alleviate land pressure by curbing shifting cultivation, while also creating jobs, enhancing agribusiness opportunities, and increasing export potential for locally grown produce.
To facilitate effective implementation, the Kwara State Government plans to engage agronomists and technical experts from Contec Global to train extension workers of the Kwara Agricultural Development Programme (KWADP). Training sessions will emphasize best agricultural practices and the effective usage of organic inputs, complemented by demonstration plots for side-by-side comparisons with traditional farming methods to enhance farmers’ confidence and knowledge transfer.
Furthermore, the initiative will support the State’s inclusive growth agenda through a targeted agricultural empowerment program for women.
In collaboration with Contec Global, the Ministry will distribute Backyard Farming Kits to women across Kwara. Each kit will include seeds for locally relevant food crops, bio-fertilizer, bio-insecticide, bio-stimulant, and an easy-to-follow bilingual guide.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to the initiative’s success across all regions of the State, praising Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for laying the groundwork for innovative collaborations that position Kwara at the forefront of sustainable agricultural practices.
“This partnership is more than about infrastructure; it’s about unlocking new value for farmers, communities, and agribusinesses. With our focus on innovation, inclusion, and investment, Kwara is on track to build a resilient and prospering agricultural future,” he stated.
Mr. Abishaek Samuel, Assistant General Manager and Head of Business Development at Contec Global Agro Limited, echoed the commitment to a long-term partnership with the State.
“Kwara has demonstrated readiness for scalable agricultural innovation. We are proud to offer our expertise in this partnership that aligns with global sustainability standards and provides tangible benefits for local farmers,” he remarked.
