Kwara reopens schools amid unrest resolution

The Kwara State Government has officially announced the immediate reopening of Government High School and Government Day Secondary School, Adeta, in Ilorin West Local Government Area.

This decision follows a crucial meeting with local community leaders and stakeholders.

Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, delivered the directive during his visit to Government High School, Ilorin. He stated, “Students of the two affected schools are expected to resume academic activities on Monday, 20th May, 2025,” emphasizing the importance of a smooth transition back to school.

The Commissioner also stressed the role of parents in this initiative, urging them to “warn their children and wards to desist from antisocial behaviors” upon returning to school. He appealed for community collaboration in supporting the government’s reformation agenda aimed at restoring discipline and order in the schools. “Adequate security measures will be put in place to ensure a safe learning environment,” he assured.

Furthermore, Dr. Olohungbebe warned that any student violating school rules and regulations would face expulsion, stating, “The School Authority and Management will not hesitate to take necessary actions against offenders.”

The meeting saw significant participation from key stakeholders, including Hon. Sheu Abdulraman Ladan, Executive Chairman of Ilorin West Local Government; Mallam Bello Tauheed Abubakar, Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission; and various community representatives, parents, and alumni members.
