Kwara reiterates commitment to infrastructure development for global impact as Works Ministry lists achievements
The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing community development and improving the state’s global standing through strategic infrastructure investments.
During the Q1 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Ministry of Finance in Ilorin, Honorable Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, presented the Ministry’s progress, revealing that 46 projects were ongoing by the end of the last quarter of 2025. Out of these, 33 projects have been fully completed, with 11 continuing into the new quarter. He announced that 24 new road projects were awarded in 2025 alone, with 6 already completed.
Engr. Olododo highlighted the critical work on the Agbamu–Ila-Orangun road, facilitating economic activity and improving access between Kwara and Osun States. He mentioned that additional border communities would be opened soon, aligning with the administration’s vision for development.
He also noted that previously stalled road projects due to cost variations would resume shortly, as the related issues have been resolved. The Commissioner reassured residents about the ongoing progress on newly awarded GRA roads and other vital routes across the state.
In a significant achievement, the Kwara State Fire Service saved properties worth ₦728,478,052,012 during the review period, showcasing improved emergency response systems.
Updates on the 209.77km RAAMP rural roads reflected the state’s recognition with two national awards for Best in Counterpart Funding and Best in Overall Disbursement, reinforcing the government’s commitment to efficiency and accountability.
Engr. Olododo praised Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s visionary leadership, stating that these accomplishments demonstrate the administration’s unwavering commitment to equitable development and infrastructural transformation.
In a noteworthy announcement, the construction of a 70-meter flagpole, set to be the tallest in West Africa, will take place on the iconic Wahab Folawiyo Unity Road, symbolizing Kwara’s growing prominence and pride.
The Commissioner also acknowledged ongoing federal road interventions in Kwara, featuring crucial projects like the 49km Eyenkorin–Afon–Ojoku–Offa–Odo-Otin Road, 83km Lafiagi–Shonga–Bacita Road, and others in the pipeline.
Engr. Olododo, however, assured Kwarans of the administration’s unwavering commitment to building a more connected and prosperous state, emphasizing their focus on strategic infrastructure investment for long-term benefits for all citizens.
